Feeding Kittens the Right Foods
By the time kittens are five to six weeks old, they should be consistently eating dry food. Prior to reaching this milestone, they are best fed on their mother's milk or, for orphaned or hand-fed kittens, a milk replacer. At about three weeks of age, you can use your commercial milk replacer to moisten their kitten food, gradually reducing the amount of milk replacer used until they're ready for dry food at six weeks of age.

An Essential Nutrient for Cats
Taurine is an amino acid readily produced by humans and dogs, but that's not synthesized adequately by companion cats. This essential amino acid is vital for eye and heart disease prevention, and is found only in foods of animal origin, such as meat, eggs and fish. RIVAL Balanced Cat Food and other complete nutrition formulas from RIVAL contain the essential taurine your cat needs.

Changing Your Cat's Food
Your cat's intestines have a normal balance of bacteria that aid in food digestion. Suddenly changing the food you feed her could upset the amount and type of bacteria, as well as her ability to digest food.

To avoid intestinal upset, gradually switch your cat's current food to RIVAL over the course of 7 to 10 days. Begin with a 25% new to 75% mixture, moving to a 50-50 combination, and then a 75% new to 25% old mixture before completing the switch. After 7 to 10 days, your cat should be ready to eat only RIVAL cat food.
