Giving Your Dog the Right Nutrients
A puppy's diet should usually contain more nutrients than an adult dog's nutrition plan. This is because puppies need increased nutrients during their period of rapid growth and development.
Some dog foods are formulated with high levels of protein and calories, giving puppies and active dogs extra energy. Other dog foods contain lower calories and fat content, which helps less active and older dogs maintain a healthy body weight.
Changing Your Dog's Food
When switching to RIVAL dog foods, allow 7 to 10 days for your pet to make the transition. To avoid intestinal upset, switch to RIVAL slowly by mixing increasing amounts of your dog's new food with his or her previous food.
A sample method for making the switch is by combining 25% new with 75% old and feeding your dog this mixture for at least 3 days. On days four, five, and six, feed your pet a 50-50 mixture. Then mix 75% new with 25% old for the next 3 days. Your dog should then be ready to eat only RIVAL dog food.
Keeping Pets Hydrated
Water is the most important nutrient for your pets. It's crucial for nearly every body function. In fact, a mere 10% loss of body water may cause serious illness. Keep in mind that on hot days, the average dog or cat can become dehydrated in a few short hours. Whenever you go to the sink or fridge for water, give your pets a drink as well; they're probably just as thirsty as you.
